Pre-K

St. Francis of Assisi Pre-Kindergarten is designed to provide a lively, imaginative, and stimulating learning environment. The PreK class is the youngest grade in the school community.  At SFA, children have the opportunity to learn through hands-on experiences that promote Christian attitudes and values, creativity, exploration, and problem solving in an age-appropriate manner.

Our goal is to prepare your child for kindergarten success. The pre-kindergarten class incorporates the curriculum that was designed by the Archdiocese of Louisville. Teaching styles differ within each class to ensure progress in development and individuality. The students in this program are well prepared for the Dial 4 assessment which is given to all incoming kindergarteners at SFA. All concepts on the test are covered in the curriculum making the transition to kindergarten at St. Francis seamless.

We know that children learn best when they’re active and engaged—when they have the opportunity to pick their own activities as well as participate in teacher-led small and large group exercises. Everyday students play and learn through different centers. The centers are designed for two students at a time, which allows them to be engaged with one area and one another. This approach to play and learning incorporates social and emotional growth by cultivating friendships and teaching teamwork.

Our program promotes an environment where children are prepared for the next step in their academic journey. Our students identify with the rest of the SFA student body by wearing uniforms and attending special areas such as library, art, music, and Physical Education classes.  Safe, outdoor playtime is implemented daily on our adjacent, age-appropriate playground.

Pre-Kindergarten has proven to be an important step in a child’s academic journey. It has helped reduce anxieties for children who are just starting school by being in a smaller class and being around others their age. Along with being introduced to the alphabet, numbers, and handwriting, children also learn to move as a group in our beautiful home-like setting.
